A study explored the relationship between early-pregnancy vitamin D levels and postpartum depressive and anxiety symptoms. The research found that vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy was linked to higher postpartum anxiety symptoms, especially in women who did not take vitamin D supplements. While vitamin D deficiency was associated with both depressive and anxiety symptoms in women not using supplements, CRP (C-reactive protein) did not mediate these effects. This study suggests that maintaining sufficient vitamin D levels during pregnancy may help reduce the risk of postpartum mood disorders. Further clinical trials are needed to determine if vitamin D supplementation can lower the risk of postpartum affective disorders.
