Appointments
Scheduling Process
1. Schedule an Intake Assessment with our Intake Therapist Rachel Levenfeld LCSW.
2. At your Intake Assessment, Rachel will review your history, gather additional information, and evaluate your symptoms. She'll collaborate with you to develop a treatment plan to help you measure your progress and meet your mental health goals. She will then help you determine which psychiatric provider would be the best fit and help get you scheduled for your Initial Psychiatric Appointment.
3. Complete your Initial Psychiatric Appointment with your psychiatric provider and follow up as scheduled.
3. Begin our Holistic Mental Wellness groups. These groups foster connection and community, and contain essential knowledge that everyone should have as part of their wellness journey. Classes are strongly recommended but are not required.
4. Begin your Integrative Wellness Appointments with your Health and Wellness Coordinator. At Dahlia Center, we believe that there's so much more to mental health than medication. We integrate holistic wellness into our treatment plans to help you meet your goals and thrive!
Holistic Mental Wellness Groups
Many of our patients are seeking a sense of community and connection, and struggle with feeling unsupported in their daily lives. At Dahlia Center, we’re committed to providing comprehensive psychiatric care that addresses your whole self, and our Holistic Mental Wellness Groups are a key part of that mission.
Somatic Self-Regulation:
Patients begin with our foundational session focused on somatic techniques. These practical skills help calm the nervous system, shifting out of the fight-or-flight response and enhancing self-soothing and self-regulation. While not mandatory for continued care, completing this group is highly recommended for all patients.
-

Advanced Holistic Mental Wellness Groups:
After completing the Somatic Self-Regulation group, patients graduate into our ongoing Advanced sessions to explore more complex topics. These groups are designed to offer continued community support and enrich your overall wellness. Whether you choose to attend regularly or as needed, these sessions are here to support you.
-

What makes our Holistic Wellness Groups at Dahlia Center unique is the integration of both a medical provider and a Wellness Coordinator into each session. This setup allows the sessions to be billed through insurance as shared medical appointments, making them a more affordable alternative to individual appointments. If you prefer, you can also choose to pay out of pocket (see the self-pay fee schedule). Established patients also have the option to use groups for some of their medication refills with provider pre-approval.
Please note that insurance only covers one appointment per day, so please schedule group, integrative, and psychiatric appointments on separate days.
These groups are more than just appointments - they’re a chance to connect with others, learn valuable skills, and invest in your mental wellness. We look forward to helping you continue your journey to well-being!
Integrative Wellness Appointments
Lifestyle Medicine in Psychiatry: Enhancing Mental Wellness through Whole-Person Care
At Dahlia Center, we're dedicated to providing you with holistic and comprehensive treatment that goes beyond medication alone. We understand that mental health is deeply interconnected with various aspects of your lifestyle. Our goal is to support your overall well-being, not just treat symptoms. To ensure we meet our commitment to exceptional care, we incorporate Lifestyle Medicine into our approach, offering Integrative Wellness Appointments as a key component of your treatment. While these appointments are not required for continued care, they are strongly recommended to assist you on your journey to wellness.
Understanding Lifestyle Medicine in Psychiatry
Lifestyle Medicine is an evidence-based practice that focuses on improving mental and physical health by addressing key lifestyle factors. In psychiatry, integrating lifestyle medicine has shown significant benefits, such as:

-
Improved Mood and Emotional Well-being: Balanced nutrition and regular physical activity can boost neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which are essential for mood regulation.
-
Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Techniques like mindfulness and stress management can lower cortisol levels, decreasing feelings of stress and anxiety.
-
Enhanced Sleep Quality: Good sleep hygiene practices contribute to better sleep patterns, which are crucial for mental health.
-
Stronger Social Connections: Building healthy relationships and community ties can reduce feelings of isolation and improve emotional resilience.
By focusing on these areas, lifestyle medicine aims to treat the root causes of mental health issues, not just the symptoms, leading to more sustainable and long-lasting improvements.
Health and Wellness Coordinators: Partners in Lifestyle Medicine
As part of our integrative approach, you'll begin working with our dedicated Health and Wellness Coordinators. Each brings a wealth of experience in holistic wellness. They are experts in lifestyle medicine and are here to support you in implementing changes across various aspects of your life. It's important to note that they are not therapists; instead, they specialize in guiding you through practical lifestyle modifications that complement your medical and therapeutic care.

Areas of focus include:
-
Nutrition: Offering guidance on developing a healthy relationship with food and fostering positive body image through a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach, empowering you to make informed nutritional choices that support your overall physical and mental health.
-
Physical Activity and Movement: Encouraging movement through personalized plans that suit your abilities and preferences, helping you increase energy, improve mood, and enhance physical well-being.
-
Birth and Postpartum Preparation: Supporting you as you prepare for and adjust to parenthood, including education about birthing options, postpartum recovery, lactation and feeding support, and the emotional transition to becoming a parent.
-
Hormonal Health, PMDD, Perimenopause, and PCOS: Offering support and strategies to manage symptoms related to hormonal changes, including perimenopause, and helping you navigate this phase with greater ease and balance.
-
Relationships and Building Social Connections: Providing strategies to foster effective communication, and enhancing connections with partners, family members, and community.
-
Healthy Attachment and Infant Bonding: Collaborating with parents to explore strategies that reduce parenting stress and strengthen the bond with their infants, promoting secure attachment and enhancing emotional security and well-being for both parent and child.
-
Work-Life Balance: Helping you create harmony between professional and personal responsibilities through time management strategies and stress-reduction techniques, fostering a fulfilling and balanced life.
-
Neurodivergence Support: Offering tailored guidance for individuals with neurodivergent experiences, focusing on unique strengths and challenges to promote understanding, acceptance, and effective coping strategies.
This diverse expertise is designed to complement your medical care and therapy, offering wraparound support that addresses every facet of your well-being. By integrating this holistic approach, we ensure that your treatment is comprehensive and goes beyond just managing symptoms—it's about helping you thrive in every aspect of your life. Our Health and Wellness Coordinators work closely with your medical providers and clinicians to create a seamless plan that aligns with your unique needs and goals.
This approach is especially important because mental health, emotional well-being, and physical health are deeply interconnected. Addressing one area without considering the others can leave gaps in care. By providing wraparound treatment, we can help you achieve better, longer-lasting outcomes, ensuring that no part of your health is overlooked.
Clarifying the Role: Wellness Coordinators vs. Therapists
We understand there may be some confusion between the roles of Wellness Coordinators and Therapists. Here's how they differ:

-
Health and Wellness Coordinators focus on lifestyle medicine—they help you implement practical changes in your daily habits and routines that can improve your mental health. They are there to support you in areas like nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and sleep hygiene.
-
Therapists, on the other hand, delve into deeper emotional and psychological issues, providing psychotherapy to address underlying mental health conditions.
By collaborating with both professionals, you receive comprehensive care that addresses both the biological and lifestyle factors affecting your mental health.

Why Integrate Lifestyle Medicine into Your Treatment?
Integrating Health and Wellness Coordination into your treatment offers numerous benefits:

-
Added Support: You gain an extra layer of support focused on practical, everyday strategies to enhance your well-being.
-
Reducing Overwhelm: Wellness Coordinators help break down lifestyle changes into manageable steps, making it easier to implement them without feeling overwhelmed.
-
Accountability: Regular check-ins provide accountability, helping you stay on track with your goals.
-
Sustainable Changes: The focus is on creating long-lasting habits that support your mental health over time.
-
Holistic Care: Addressing multiple facets of your health ensures no aspect of your well-being is overlooked.

This approach recognizes that medication and therapy are essential but even more effective when combined with positive lifestyle changes.

We genuinely believe that integrating Lifestyle Medicine into your care provides a more comprehensive support system, addressing not just your symptoms but your overall well-being. If you have any questions or need help with scheduling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We look forward to continuing our journey together, as we strive to offer innovative, efficient, and patient-centered care that truly aligns with our vision.
